ESU:
Trans-Atlantic Debate
On
March 14th 2000, LiveTX hosted the first world debate
of its kind via the Internet. The Lawrence Debate Union
from the University of Vermont and the English Speaking
Union (ESU) in London, met and discussed the pros and
cons of technology whilst never leaving their respective
countries.
Each
Union was able to seamlessly exchange ideas via a live
two-way link-up, projected both ends onto large screens
for everyone to see and hear. This
feat of technology allowed for an inexpensive alternative
for debate competition with a relatively low-end computer
set-up and application.
Additionally,
several hundred schools and universities were able to
view the debate on LiveTX.com, which received over 7000
viewers during the course of the day.
