Introduction
On
February 1st 2002, Ice Challenger leaves New York's
Times Square to become the first car to cross the planet.
British
explorer Steve Brooks and his team will set 4 new World
Records by completing the longest overland journey in
history. Explorers have pioneered many, different ways
of travelling from New York to London. Steve Brooks
in Ice Challenger is the first explorer to go the long
way round, overland and by car.
To
drive between East and West, Ice Challenger will have
to cross a 56-mile ice bridge at the point where the
two worlds meet - The Bering Strait.
The
Ice Challenger craft is the world's most advanced 4-wheel
drive: a specially customised Hummer, capable of driving
on water, land, rocks and ice. Working with a team of
British hovercraft engineers, Brooks has designed an
inflatable skirt which bolts around the car, powered
by the hydraulic fan from a NATO Challenger tank.
LiveTX
will be equipping the vehicle with cutting-edge satellite
communications technology, to enable the team to link
to the world, 24:7. Live daily video reports will be
broadcast to LiveTX.com.
