Mera
Peak Expedition
The
Mera Peak Expedition set off from London to conquer
Nepal's highest trekking peak on September 22nd 1999.
At over 6200m, Mera Peak provided the perfect testing
ground for live, extreme and remote broadcasting, and
the trip was to become the LiveTX inaugural project.
At
the time of the trip, the satellite technology that
allowed live video streams to be broadcast from remote
locations was still being developed. However, the team
sent back daily audio dairies, and the other components
of the system were tested for their durability at altitude
and in moist, sub-zero weather conditions.
A
day-by-day account of the trip, including the diaries,
can be found by clicking on the links below, or the
days above. Summit Day (Day 14) is worth a look! Also,
details of the team, training
and preparation, kit and
technical equipment, and expedition
route can also be found here.
