Diary
by Guy Wolstenholme;
"I
woke in a small smoky room with bodies all around me, with
talk of sickness during the night. I had slept through most
of the evening's problems. A few of the team had lots to drink
the night before on reaching Tangnag, our rest base. Toby,
Kenny and Ron had some problems in the night and were taking
it easy.
The
day started at the breakfast table outside with porridge.
As you could imagine, not everyone could manage the start
of the day with porridge. Today was a well needed rest day
and luckily for us the sun was out. It was a great opportunity
for us to clean and dry some of our clothes we had been using
the past 13 days. Ben and I had planned to interview the sherpas
who had led us to the peak the day before. Ben had had an
eventful summit attempt and was interested to hear the sherpas
views. Paul translated and helped us set up the interviews.
I
have missed family and friends a lot, especially Sarah my
girlfriend while away, and have had a lot of time to think
about them during the long days walking. Today was the first
day of our journey home and as much as I have enjoyed the
expedition, I have found that I have missed people a lot and
I'm looking forward to getting home. The peak pressure is
off now and everyone seems happier, even though we didn't
make it to the peak. Today ended early, tomorrow we set off
home."
