Ions;
"Day
18, party time to Luglha. The weather has been overcast all
day and we are back down to an altitude of 2800m. I awoke
to find that all the porters were still alive and kicking
which was good news and they had sorted out all their differences
without any violence which was a bonus.
The two brothers which were the main instigators of the problem
were fined two days wages and that was going to be shared
out with all the other porters. It's our last trekking day
today and it's all down hill which is good news because all
our legs are a bit tired after yesterday and we broke camp
this morning and were on the trail by 7.30.
The first signs of civilisation came at around 9 o'clock when
we could hear planes in the distance, landing at Luglha. After
doing a thing like this, I always approach civilisation with
a tinge of regret but at the same time there's plenty of fun
still to be had, with two days with the boys here in Kathmandu.
At
10.30 we walked into Luglha, the expedition was over. Lots
of locals and white people were everywhere and planes seemed
to be making their perilous landings every few minutes. We
made our way to the Paradise Lodge by the airstrip where it
all began what seems an age ago.
True to form, Mohan was waiting for us with hot juice. Camp
was set on the garden here, right beside the runway, so lunch
was slightly deafening, although as I write this, it's peaceful
again. Had a wander round town this afternoon and a couple
of beers. It seems like a busy little place, expedition parties
everywhere.
Tonight
we are throwing a party for all our staff, I've just gone
in and bought 2 bottles of whisky, 30 bottles of rum and 30
bottles of Chang, the local wine here, so no doubt we will
all have some pretty sore heads tomorrow. It's been a great
expedition and hopefully tomorrow when we all leave each other,
we'll all go our separate ways with some good stories and
some great experiences under our belt."
