Diary
by Ben Wolstenholme;
"Rest
day and we are at 4500m. All woke a bit later today, visited
the gents at 4.30, in the rain, this morning. Expected to
wake up to sodden ground everywhere but opened the tent flap
to reveal a covering of snow and the crisp smell that comes
with it.
The
group has split in half but Toby, Guy and I stayed at camp,
testing equipment and resting while the others left to gain
some altitude, watched them climb the slope. It was great
to have some time to set up decent shots. Got a panorama of
the site before the snow thawed and a wall of mist rolled
in to obscure most views. All
back for lunch.
Spent
the rest of the day until evening with Guy and Tobes trying
to piece the equipment together. Feels like we are playing
russian roulette everytime we connect a piece of kit to a
powerpack. Lost another battery, but got the sat-phone working
off solar power. Eventually managed to send a fax, which is
a revelation, trickled some written content back to the studio.
Quiet evening with more excellent food and scrabble. Feeling
heady, another late night, 9pm."
